Normal, Ill. ? Illinois State got the better of Bradley starter Collin Walker (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader and second game of the weekend Valley baseball set in a sloppy 6-3 win that snapped the Braves' six-game winning streak.

The hosts scored all their runs in the first three innings and solid pitching made it stand up as the Braves fell to 17-15, 8-3 in MVC play.

The Redbirds (12-21, 5-6 MVC) grabbed two runs in the second off Walker when a two-out double by catcher Kevin Dubler plated Brian Davis and Blake Schoonover.

The Illinois State attack would get some help from a pair of Dan Brewer (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township) errors in the bottom of the third inning.  A leadoff single followed by a Ryan Anetsberger double set the table for the Redbirds in the third.  Cleanup man Jesse Griswold's two-run single up the middle was the third straight hit in the inning and stretched the ISU lead to 4-0.

After a sacrifice moved Griswold to second, Brewer committed the first of two errors on consecutive plays, putting runners on the corners with one out.  The second error came when the freshman second baseman couldn't handle Brian Davis' ground ball, allowing Griswold to score the first of two unearned ISU runs in the inning.

A failed ISU double steal left just one runner on to score on a Schoonover triple to right field.

Trailing 6-0, the Braves, received some help from the ISU defense in the fourth to pull one run back.  Jason Newburger (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) reached on the first of two errors by shortstop Ryan Anetsberger in the inning and advanced to third on Brewer's 10th double of the year.  The Braves scored on Anetsberger's error on a Colby Luttrell (Kincaid, Ill./South Fork) grounder, making it 6-1 in favor of the hosts.

The Bradley fifth saw the Redbirds commit errors at third on a ball from Paul Rice (Beardstown, Ill./Beardstown) and the third error on Anetsberger ? for the second time on a Jason Newburger at bat.  Dan Brewer was hit in the next at bat to load the bases for Luttrell, who singled through the right side to give us the 6-3 final.

Bradley starter Collin Walker (1-3) allowed 11 Redbird hits and four earned runs in defeat.

Illinois State starter Ian Berger improves to 3-4 on the season while Mike Hlavacek picked up his fifth save for the Redbirds.

The series finale is set for 30 minutes after the completion of the first game and should begin at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
