HILO, Hawai'i - Senior Justin Carr (Camargo, Ill./Villa Grove) had the game-winning RBI single in the top of the 10th inning, as the Braves edged Hawai'i-Hilo 3-2, in the fifth game of a six-game series at Wong Stadium.
Junior Chris Wright (Rochester, Ill. /Rochester) pitched six and one-third innings, scattering six hits and striking out four in the no-decision. Senior Brad Jones (Potomac, Md./Landon School) pitched two and one-third innings of scoreless relief and freshman Brad Altbach (Northbrook, Ill. Glenbrook North) threw one and a third innings to pick up the victory.
Offensively, the Braves were led by senior Paul Rice (Beardstown, Ill./Beardstown), who went 2-for-4 with an RBI double. Senior Pat Ryerson (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) went 1-for-4 with a run-scoring double, while Carr (Camargo, Ill./Villa Grove) was 1-for-4 with the game-winning RBI single.
Scoreless in the top of the third, sophomore Mike McMillan (Bloomington, Ill./Normal University) walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ryerson ripped an RBI double down the left-field line, scoring McMillan. Rice followed with an RBI double to left, plating Ryerson for a 2-0 lead.
The Vulcans got runs in the bottom of the third and bottom of the seventh from RBI singles by David Chu and Shane Kessel, tying the game at 2-2.
In the top of the 10th inning, junior Ryan Eigsti (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) hit a two-out double to right center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Carr drove in Eigsti with a single to center to give the Braves a 3-2 lead.
Brad Altbach tossed a scoreless 10th inning to earn the win and improve to 3-2 on the year.
Bradley improved to 9-7 on the season with the win, while Hawai'i-Hilo falls to 5-22 on the spring.
The Braves will be back in action Thursday as they conclude their series against Hawaii-Hilo baseball team with an 8 p.m. (CDT) game.
