PEORIA, Ill. -- Indiana State scored 13 runs in the top of the ninth inning of Saturday's win against Bradley, and the Sycamores picked up right where they left off by scoring the first nine runs of Sunday's rubber-game in the three-game Missouri Valley Conference series en route to a second straight 16-2 win over the Braves at O'Brien Field.

Junior pitcher Matt Shelton kept Bradley's (10-12 overall, 3-3 MVC) hitters off balance all day, striking out eight while not allowing a base on balls in a four-hit complete game effort in the seven inning contest. Offensively, four different Indiana State (7-14 overall, 3-3 MVC) players enjoyed multi-hit days with Chris Schmidt going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Designated hitter Brady Shoemaker turned in a 4-for-5 day at the plate with a double, three runs scored and four runs batted in, as he helped Indiana State outhit Bradley 16-4.

Indiana State broke open a scoreless game in the top of the third inning. With runners at first and third, Shoemaker notched the first of his four RBI on the day with a single to right center that scored Gary King. Two batters later David Brumagin ripped a three-run homer to left field to give Indiana State at 4-0 lead.

The Sycamores plated five more runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-0 advantage. A pair of walks was followed by a one-out three-run homer off the bat of Schmidt. Nick Ciolli drew a walk and Shoemaker knocked in his second run of the day in with a single to center. A balk and a base on balls put runners and first and second for Brian Jett who capped the inning with a run-scoring single to left field.

Junior Grant Escue (Washington, Ill./Washington/Stanford) got the first hit of the day for Bradley when he led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single. The Braves had runners at first and second with one out, when junior Jim Clayton (Chatham, Ill./Chatham Glenwood/Southeast Missouri State) ripped a single to right center that scored junior Dan Brewer (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township) from second. Junior Tommy Fitzgerald (Lenexa, Kan./Mill Valley/Fort Scott C.C.) drove in the second run of the inning with a ground ball to the right side of the infield which scored junior Colby Luttrell (Kincaid, Ill./South Fork) to cut the Indiana State lead to 9-2.

The Sycamores got two runs back in the top of the fifth inning when Shoemaker smacked a two-out double off the right field fence, plating a pair of runs to push the lead to 11-2. Indiana State scored two more runs in the sixth inning on a run-scoring double off the bat of Ryan Strausborger and a single by Gary King. The Sycamores struck for three more runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 16-2 advantage and Shelton closed out the first complete-game victory of the year for Indiana State in the seventh, striking out a pair and giving up just a single in the final frame.

Junior Collin Brennan (Williamsville, Ill./Williamsville) suffered the loss for the Braves giving up six hits and nine earned runs in three and one-third innings of work.

Indiana State won two of three games during the three-game Valley set to take the regular-season series. Bradley continues its season-long nine-game homestand Tuesday when the Braves play host to Quincy at 4 p.m. at O'Brien Field.
