PEORIA, Ill. - Bradley senior guard Andrew Warren (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) enjoyed a career game on Senior Night, leading the Braves (11-19, 4-14 MVC) to a 90-64 rout of Drake (13-17, 7-11 MVC) Saturday at Carver Arena. Warren entered the game as the Missouri Valley Conference scoring leader and capped off his regular season with career-best totals of 33 points, 11 rebounds and five assists and he matched his career-best with four steals.
The Braves and Bulldogs will see each other again Thursday, when seventh-seeded Drake takes on 10th-seeded Bradley in the 8:35 p.m. first-round game in the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Although the tournament's 10th seed, Bradley won 5-of-8 games in February.
In addition to Warren's effort, fellow senior guard Dodie Dunson scored 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field and also had a stellar all-around game by adding seven assists, six rebounds and a steal. Sophomore guard Dyricus Simms-Edwards scored 15 points for the fourth consecutive game and junior forward Will Egolf added 11 points. Kurt Alexander scored 15 points off the bench to pace Drake, while Rayvonte Rice added 14.
Highlighted by a 20-for-26 (.769) effort in the second half, Bradley shot a red-hot 63.2 percent (36-57) from the field for the game. The field goal percentage was Bradley's best in at least the last six seasons and led to its best point total since Jan. 6, 2010 (91 versus Indiana State in overtime) and its best in regulation since the Braves beat Virginia, 96-85, March 26, 2008.
After Drake to trimmed a 39-26 halftime lead to 46-36 with 16:06 left, Warren scored the game's next seven points to break the game open. He added an up-and-under basket in transition for Bradley's first 20-point bulge, 63-42, with 10:22 left and the Bulldogs never got their deficit under 20 the rest of the game.
