Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Isaac Smith continued to swing a hot bat and a pair of Bradley pitchers combined on a 2-hitter, leading the Braves (14-3) to a 12-1 win Tuesday morning against Mount Vernon Nazarene (6-3) in the 2015 RussMatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational at Chain of Lakes Park Stadium.
Smith, who upped his team-leading batting average to .444, was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and extended his hitting streak to eight games with his fourth 3-hit game in the streak. Designated hitter Ian Kristan was 2-for-4 with three RBI's, while Carson Weber (2-2) and Drew Carlile (2-3) both drove in two runs as part of Bradley's 14-hit attack.
Senior left-hander David Koll (1-0) picked up his first win of the season by allowing one run on two hits in his 5.0 innings. Stephen Toma retired all six batters he faced to close out the 7-inning contest.
Bradley got all the offense it needed in the first inning against the No. 24 NAIA team. Chris Godinez was hit by a pitch to open the home half of the first and Smith followed with a single. Kristan drove home Godinez with a single to center field and Carlile added a 2-run triple with two outs. The Braves added three runs in each of the second, third and fifth innings.
The Braves are scheduled to continue play in the RussMatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational Wednesday with a 9 a.m. game against UMass-Dartmouth (4-1) at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburdale. Bradley will wrap up its 8-game spring break trip with a trio of games Friday and Saturday at North Florida (14-8).
