Game Recap: Baseball |
PEORIA, IL – Illinois rallied past the Bradley baseball team on Tuesday night at Dozer Park, scoring five runs in the eighth inning for an 8-6 victory. The Braves are now 18-20 on the year, while the Illini improve to 16-22.

The Braves entered the eighth frame with a 5-3 advantage but could not escape the inning with the lead. A bunt single loaded the bases for Illinois with no outs before a single up the middle plated two and tied the game at five. After a line out, Illinois then hit two-straight singles to score two more runs before a double steal of second and home added one final run in the frame for an 8-5 lead.

Bradley threatened in the bottom of the eighth when it got the first two runners on base and scored one run via wild pitch. However, the Braves went 0-for-3 in the inning with the tying run at the base and hitless in two more attempts in the ninth with a chance to tie the contest as Illinois held on the for 8-6 victory.

Illinois scored the first two runs of the game with a two-run homer in the top of the third. The Braves pulled one back in the bottom of the inning before the Illini reclaimed their two-run advantage with a solo shot in the fourth.

The Braves, however, scored the next four runs to claim their 5-3 lead. Jean-Francois Garon knocked one run in in the fourth with a fielder's choice with the bases loaded before Andy Shadid added an RBI with a sacrifice fly, squaring the game at three. Garon then hit a two-run shot over the left-field fence in the bottom of the sixth for his ninth homer of the season and a 5-3 Bradley advantage.

Garon finished the game 1-for-4 with a game-high three RBI. Ivelia, Luke Shadid and Brendan Dougherty led the Braves with a pair of hits in the ball game.

Mitch Janssen started for BU and pitched five innings, allowing three runs. Eric Scheuermann (1-4) took the loss on the mound by allowing three runs in two innings of work.

Bradley concludes its 10-game homestand tomorrow night at Dozer Park, hosting SIU Edwardsville. The Braves, who are 5-4 so far during the stretch, host the Cougars starting at 6 p.m.
