Bradley 10, at Valparaiso 4

VALPARAISO, IN –
Bradley took advantage of wild pitching from the Valparaiso bullpen to take the season's first Missouri Valley Conference series, rallying for eight runs in the last two innings for a 10-4 win against the host Crusaders (8-16, 1-2 MVC) Sunday afternoon at Emory G. Bauer Field.

Trailing 3-2 in the eighth, Brendan Dougherty was hit by a pitch with two outs and Andy Shadid walked on four pitches.  Dan Bolt and Jean-Francois Garon followed with run-scoring singles to give Bradley (14-7, 2-1 MVC) the lead, 4-3.

The Braves broke the game open in the ninth without needing to swing the bat.  Luke Shadid's RBI single was the only hit in a 6-run outburst that saw four Valparaiso pitchers combine for seven walks and a run-scoring wild pitch.  The Crusaders defense also committed an error and allowed another run to score on a passed ball.

Bradley starting pitcher Sam Lund was perfect through the first three innings. He went on to allow three runs, two earned, on six hits without a walk or a strikeout in his 6.0 innings.  Although Lund wound up with a no-decision, the Braves improved to 6-0 in his six starts this season.  Alex Gray (4-0) earned the win by retiring all six batters he faced and Boby Johnson pitched allowed a run on three hits in the ninth before escaping a bases-loaded jam to close out the series-clinching victory.

The Braves banged out 11 hits Sunday and eight of the nine batters reached safely at least twice.  Bolt finished 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and two RBI's.

Bradley is scheduled to conclude a 5-game road swing Wednesday at Western Illinois, before returning home to Indiana State in a 3-game Valley series next weekend at Dozer Park.
