Game Recap: Baseball |
PEORIA, IL – Indiana State scored seven combined runs in the second and third innings against the Bradley baseball team to earn a 9-3 victory at Dozer Park on Saturday afternoon. The Braves are now 16-8 during the 2018 campaign with a 3-2 record against Missouri Valley Conference teams, while the Sycamores improve to 16-9 and 2-3 versus league foes.

After a scoreless first inning, the Sycamores struck with five runs in the second inning, four coming with two outs. The first two ISU players reached base via walk and a hit by pitch and after a sacrifice bunt, a groundout scored the first run of the game for Indiana State. The Sycamores then added to their count with a RBI single before a three-run homer gave the team a 5-0 lead.

Indiana State then added two more runs in the third inning, again with two outs, after a double extended the lead to 7-0.

Derek Bangert and Luke Shadid led the Braves with a pair of hits each on the day. Bangert's first single to lead off the fourth resulted in the team's first run for a 7-1 contest. In the seventh inning, Andy Shadid led off the inning with a double and was brought home on a sacrifice fly before his brother, Luke, added another Bradley run with a two-out double of his own.

The Sycamores, however, ended the threat and added a run in the seventh and eighth inning for the 9-3 victory.

Sam Lund took his first loss of the season on the mound, pitching three innings. Mitch Plassmeyer pitched 3.1 innings of relief for the Braves and did not allow a run.

The rubber game in the series is set for tomorrow afternoon at Dozer Park with first pitch scheduled for 12:02 p.m.
