The 2020 Kaboom! Awards, presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC, continues today by spotlighting the fourth finalist for the Charles Orsborn Award, Baseball senior Luke Shadid.

Honoring Bradley's former four-sport student-athlete, Men's Basketball Head Coach and Director of Athletics, the Charles Orsborn Award is the most-prestigious honor Bradley University bestows upon a graduating senior student-athlete and recognizes the ability of the winner to combine athletic and academic success with community service.  The award is selected by the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee (IAC), following a thorough review of all six nominees and interviews with the four finalists.

Named to the inaugural national watch list for the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award, which emulates the qualities of the Orsborn Award, Shadid was on pace to challenge Bradley Baseball's all-time hits record when the 2020 season was cut short.  He was selected All-Missouri Valley Conference second team as a junior in 2019 after leading The Valley in hits per game, runs scored per game and runs produced per game.  Having started at shortstop for 151 of Bradley's 161 games played during his four-year career, Shadid entered the 2020 season as the team's active leader in career batting average (.319), runs scored (117), hits (181), doubles (29), triples (nine), home runs (16, co-leader), runs batted in (93), total bases (276), hit-by-pitches (25) and sacrifice bunts (16), as well as assists (347).

Shadid earned his bachelor's degree in business with a concentration in finance in just three years, graduating magna cum laude in 2019 with a 3.66 cumulative GPA, and used his fourth year of eligibility to pursue his master's degree in business administration (3.64 graduate school GPA).  A two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete first-team selection, Shadid is the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and has repeated as a member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 Baseball Team.  He is currently being considered for 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.  Shadid has earned the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award in 2018 and 2019, while qualifying for the MVC Honor Roll in each of his first three years and the Bradley Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll in each of his first eight semesters.

In addition to his participation in activities coordinated by the Braves Council and the Baseball program, Shadid has been at the forefront of Bradley Baseball's participation in the Vs. Cancer Foundation's fundraising campaign to fight pediatric cancer.  Aided by Shadid's efforts, Bradley Baseball is among college baseball's top fundraising teams on behalf of Vs. Cancer, generating more than $60,000 for the foundation with half of those funds directly benefitting patients in Peoria at Children's Hospital of Illinois.

The 2020 Kaboom! Awards are celebrating the year in Bradley Athletics by transitioning to a virtual presentation throughout the month of May. Each year on the final night of spring semester classes, the Bradley Department of Athletics gathers at Renaissance Coliseum for the annual Kaboom! Awards, an event modeled after the popular awards shows in the entertainment industry (Oscars, Grammys, ESPYs) and recognizes all of the graduating seniors, spotlights the team and individual achievements from throughout the year. Traditionally preceded by a red-carpet reception, the awards show is filled with video and graphic tributes, which will be presented this year through the Bradley Athletics website, BradleyBraves.com, and the department's social media accounts -- culminating with the announcement of the 67th Charles Orsborn Award May 29 and viewing of the Moments of the Year May 30.

The 2020 Kaboom! Awards continue Wednesday by highlighting the 2019-20 Men's Basketball season.
