Game Recap: Baseball |
Tampa, Fla. – The Bradley baseball team used a strong effort at the plate, on the mound and in the field to defeat South Florida, 10-4, on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Braves improve to 4-7 on the season, while the Bulls drop to 9-6.

All nine Bradley hitters either scored a run or drove one in in the six-run victory with sophomore Jackson Chatterton and redshirt freshman Peter Hansen leading the way with two hits each.

Freshman Jacob Kisting, who has started three of Bradley's four victories this season, improved to 2-1 in his rookie campaign – pitching 5.2 innings, while allowing just one run and three hits. Senior Troy Hickey pitched the final 3.1 innings to earn his first collegiate save.

South Florida struck first in the game, having its first two batters reach base and then scoring on a groundout in the opening frame. However, Kisting would strike out the final two batters to end the threat and would then allow only one hit in the second and fifth innings the remainder of his start – striking out a career-best six – to tame the Bulls at the plate.

The Bradley offense would also respond by scoring the next 10 runs in the game, starting with a five-run third frame. Freshman Cal McGinnis started the scoring, taking advantage of a USF error before Keaton Rice gave BU the lead for good with a run-scoring double. Hansen then drove in a run before BU scored off another Bulls error. Chatterton finished the inning with a two-out RBI double for the 5-1 Bradley lead.

The Braves then added a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to take full control of the game. Junior Connor O'Brien finished a two-out rally with a single that plated two in the sixth. Freshman Jack Lincoln then followed suit in the seventh with a two-out single for the 9-1 tally.

Bradley added one final run in the ninth before South Florida finally ended its drought with three runs in the bottom half of the inning but it proved to be too late in the 10-4 BU victory.

The teams are now set for the rubber game of the series with a noon CT first pitch on Sunday afternoon.
