Game Recap: Baseball |
Cookeville, Tenn. – The Bradley baseball team earned a victory in the series opener at Tennessee Tech on Friday night, posting an 8-2 win. The Braves improve to 6-11 with the victory, while the Golden Eagles drop to 14-6.

Junior Connor Manthey led the Braves in the winning effort – knocking in a career-best five runs (two more than his previous personal best) behind a sixth-inning grand slam that put Bradley in front for good.

Freshman Jacob Kisting earned the win on the mound to improve to 4-1 on the season – pitching seven innings and allowing just one run and four hits to go with a career-best nine strikeouts.

The Golden Eagles scored their only run off Kisting in the first inning, scoring on a double play for a 1-0 advantage. The lead would hold until the sixth inning when Manthey would come up big for the Braves. With one out and the bases loaded, the junior sent the first pitch he saw over the left-field fence as Bradley moved in front, 4-1.

The Braves then added two runs in the seventh when Jackson Chatterton had a bunt single that scored one before Manthey drew a bases-loaded walk for his fifth RBI of the day. Keaton Rice then doubled home a run in the eighth for a 7-1 contest. Tennessee Tech pulled one back with a solo home run in its half of the eighth before Peter Hansen added one final run with an RBI single in the ninth.

The schools are back in action tomorrow afternoon with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
