Game Recap: Baseball |
Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley baseball team dropped its home opener on Wednesday night, falling to Iowa, 9-8, in 11 innings. The Braves are now 8-15 on the season, while the Hawkeyes improve to 15-10.

Junior Connor O'Brien led the Braves with three hits on the night, while sophomore Ryan Vogel had a career-best four RBI thanks to a second-inning grand slam.

Bradley scored six runs in the first two innings to take the early lead in the game. The Braves scored one in the first when Keaton Rice hit an RBI single to score O'Brien. Iowa answered with three in the second before the Braves plated five in their half of the inning for the 6-3 contest. The first eight Braves reached base in the frame with Cole Luckey bringing one home with an infield single before Vogel cleared the bases with his first career grand slam and fourth career home run.

The Bradley lead would hold until the eighth inning. Iowa would pull one back in the fourth with a delayed double steal before scoring two in the eighth to finally square the game at six. The Hawkeyes then took the lead in the top half of the ninth, scoring on a throwing error. Bradley would answer with a run in its half of the inning – O'Brien scoring on a sacrifice fly from Connor Manthey – to send the game into extra innings.

Iowa again pulled in front in the top of the 10th with a sac fly of its own only for Bradley to answer one final time when Logan Delgado collected his first hit of the season for an RBI single. The Hawkeyes, however, would score in a fourth-straight inning in the top of the 11th with another sacrifice fly and this time, the Braves could not answer as Iowa earned the 9-8 victory.

Bradley continues its homestand on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against Wright State. First pitch at Dozer Park is set for noon and the game will mark the first of a three-game series that will honor former Bradley pitcher Mitch Janssen '19, who passed away in 2020.
