Game Recap: Baseball |
Peoria, Ill. – Missouri State scored one run in the eighth and one in the ninth to rally for a 7-6 win over the Bradley baseball team on Thursday night. The Braves are now 18-27 on the year with a 9-10 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Missouri State moves to 25-24 and 8-11 versus league foes.

Bradley had a strong start to the game and raced to a 5-2 lead through three innings. The schools traded runs in the first with MSU hitting a leadoff home run before Carson Husmann answered with a two-out single that scored one. The Bears again hit a solo shot to lead off the third but this time, Bradley answered with three runs to take the lead. The Braves scored one on a bases-loaded groundout before adding two more off a single from Jackson Chatterton for the 4-2 advantage. BU then extended its lead to 5-2 when Carl Valk hit his first home run of the season.

The Bears pulled two back in the fourth and then squared the game at five with one run in the sixth but Bradley quickly moved back in front in the home half of the sixth. Logan Delgado connected on his first career home run as BU grabbed a 6-5 lead.

The one-run edge lasted until the eighth inning when the Bears scored via a sacrifice fly. Missouri State was then able to take advantage of a lead-off double in the ninth and scored two batters later on a single for the 7-6 lead. Bradley threatened when Ryan Vogel drew a leadoff hit by pitch before moving to second on a stolen base but MSU would leave him there to secure the victory.

The schools look to wrap up the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
