Game Recap: Baseball |

Bradley 7, Bethune-Cookman 6

Daytona Beach, Fla. – Bradley rallied late and secured a 7-6 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, closing the opening weekend with a dramatic ninth-inning push.

The Braves used timely hitting and capitalized on defensive miscues to overcome multiple deficits. Bradley collected nine hits and drew seven walks while forcing three Wildcat errors.

Bethune-Cookman struck first in the third on a sacrifice fly, but Bradley answered in the fourth with a three-run inning. Hayden Miller ignited the frame and later scored, while Landon Lowe and Angelo Aleman delivered key RBI moments to put the Braves ahead 4-1.

The Wildcats responded immediately. A two-run home run by Fernandez tied the game in the fourth before Bethune-Cookman added single runs in the fifth and seventh to take a 6-4 advantage.

Bradley refused to go away.

In the eighth, the Braves loaded the bases and AJ Garcia delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon, lining a two-RBI single to right field to tie the game at 6-6.

The decisive moment came in the ninth. Anthony Martinez doubled to left-center, moved to third, and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Lowe to give Bradley its first lead since the fourth inning.

On the mound, Ryan Schaffnit worked four innings, allowing four runs. Calen Scheider followed with 2.2 innings of relief, and Brady Appel bridged to the late innings. Robert Sanford closed the door with two scoreless frames to secure the win.

Bethune-Cookman starter Bocabello allowed four runs, one earned, over 4.2 innings before four relievers combined to finish the game.

By The Numbers

Bradley: 7 runs, 9 hits, 2 errors
Bethune-Cookman: 6 runs, 12 hits, 3 errors
