NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Bradley Baseball's early rally was not enough to top the Belmont Bruins on Sunday, as Belmont won, 12-11.
An Early Comeback Falls Short
Belmont kept the momentum from their win on Saturday, scoring five runs in the first inning with an RBI double, an error on a stolen base that allowed another run to score, another RBI double, and a two-RBI double. In the second inning, Belmont hit a two-run home run and an RBI double to make it 8-0. They added one final insurance run in the third on an RBI single.
In the fourth inning, Landon Lowe started the rally with a solo shot to make it 9-1. The Braves built on that lead-off hit, tying the game before Belmont recorded an out. AJ Garcia's RBI single, Angelo Aleman's bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, Peyton Nelson's bases-loaded walk, Sohrab Rezaei's RBI single, Luke Skinner's RBI single, Lowe's two-RBI double, and Michael Quick's RBI single tied the game at nine apiece. Later in the same inning, Garcia launched a triple to center to score two more, giving Bradley an 11-9 lead.
After the early onslaught of runs, neither team scored until the eighth inning when Belmont tied the game with an RBI double and an RBI groundout. They walked it off in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly.
Standout Performances for Bradley
Lowe had a phenomenal game, going 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, a hit-by-pitch, three RBI, and two runs scored. Garcia hit 2-for-5 with a triple, three RBI, and a run scored. Quick was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Rezaei went 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored, and Hayden Miller rounded out the group with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and a run scored.
On the Mound
Josh Vaughn made the start and pitched one inning, allowing seven runs, five earned, on seven hits while walking one and striking out one. Calen Scheider relieved Vaughn and gave up four runs on nine hits over 6.2 innings while walking five and striking out five.
Gavin Thompson pitched 2/3 of an inning while striking out one.
Standout Performances for Belmont
Landon Godsey had a strong game, going 4-for-6 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Owen Marsh closed out the game for the Bruins, pitching two scoreless innings while allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout.
