Box Score BRADENTON, Fla. -- Ohio State scored five runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to break open a tight game and dump Bradley, 10-3, Tuesday afternoon at the IMG Academy. The Braves fell to 5-8 on the season with their fourth loss in five games during their Spring Break trip to Florida, while Ohio State improved to 8-5.
Bradley starter Chris Wright (0-2) worked in and out of trouble by allowing just one run on six hits through the first four innings, but he could not overcome a bases-loaded, no-outs situation in the fifth. Miller gave the Buckeyes the lead for good, 3-2, by coming through with a 2-run double to start the five-run fifth.
Bradley had taken a 2-1 lead in the fourth when right fielder Colby Luttrell plated Nick Mitidiero with an RBI triple, then scored himself on Rob Elliott's groundout to short. Luttrell also helped the Braves pulled to within 6-3 in the top of the sixth by leading off the frame with a single against Buckeyes starter DeLucia (1-0). Luttrell went to second on an Elliott sacrifice bunt, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Mike Brumleve's sacrifice fly.
After Wright allowed six runs on 12 hits in 5.0 innings, the Buckeyes roughed up reliever Spencer Hahn for three runs on four hits in just one-third of an inning. Junior Bryan Porter allowed one run on three hits over the final 2.2 innings. Three Ohio State pitchers, conversely, kept the Braves in check by recording 14 strikeouts. The Buckeyes outhit Bradley, 19-6.
Lutrell paced the Bradley offense by going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a run batted in. Junior leadoff man Dan Brewer was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and was hit by a pitch in his four plate appearances.
The Braves will wrap up their Florida trip with a 9:30 a.m. (CST) game Wednesday versus Miami-Ohio, then will open Missouri Valley Conference play with a three-game series at Evansville, beginning with a 3 o'clock game Friday afternoon.
