Braves Rally to Beat Bluejays, 8-4

Bradley Baseball Beats St. Xavier, 15-2

PEORIA, Ill. - Bradley's 5-9 hitters finished a combined 16-for-22 with 11 runs batted in and junior right-hander Patrick Cooper (Danville, Ky./Des Moines Area C.C./Boyle County H.S.) pitched 8.0 scoreless innings as the Braves topped St. Xavier 15-2 Sunday night at O'Brien Field.

Senior first baseman Mike McMillan (Bloomington, Ill./Normal University H.S.) got things going for the Braves in the bottom of the second with a one-out double to left field and scored on a single by freshman outfielder Mike Tauchman (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd H.S.) to make the score 1-0. Two batters later, freshman shortstop Jason Leblebijian (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.) delivered a two-out two-run double to right field to put Bradley on top 3-0.

The Braves added another run in the fourth on a two-out RBI triple by freshman outfielder Christian Segar (Mendon, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit H.S.) to take a 4-0 lead, and went ahead 5-0 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by junior outfielder Brian Martin (Glen Ellyn, Ill./College of DuPage/Lombard Montini Catholic H.S.). Bradley used three hits and two St. Xavier errors to plate two more runs in the sixth, and tacked on five more runs in the seventh, including a two-run triple by senior second baseman Matt Fritz (Northbrook, Ill./DePauw University/Glenbrook North H.S.), to make the score 12-0.

The scoring continued in the eighth as freshman Bob Schuch (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice H.S.) delivered a pinch-hit RBI double, senior designated hitter Jordan Colvin (O'Fallon Ill./Southwestern Illinois College/O'Fallon Township H.S.) ripped an RBI single and Segar added a sac fly to give the Braves a 15-0 lead.

Cooper evened his record at 3-3 on the season, allowing just two hits in 8.0 innings of work. The right-hander retired 11 straight batters to start the game and recorded a season-high eight strikeouts. Leblebijian finished 3-for-4 with four RBI's to lead the Bradley offense, while McMillan and Tauchman also added three hits each.

The Braves (15-25) will return to action Saturday, May 8 with a non-conference double-header against SIU Edwardsville at 11 a.m. at O'Brien Field.
