PEORIA, Ill. – Junior forward Tyshon Pickett (Passaic, N.J./Passaic H.S.) made 7-of-12 field goal attempts while scoring a game-high 16 points, leading the Red squad to a 34-27 victory in the annual Bradley Basketball Red-White Scrimmage Friday night at Renaissance Coliseum.
The men's intrasquad scrimmage capped off a Bradley Athletics tripleheader, labeled Cram the Coliseum. Southern Illinois spoiled the night's beginning by knocking off the volleyball Braves in a 5-set match. The Bradley women's basketball team followed with a 16-minute intrasquad scrimmage and the Bradley men's basketball squad finished off the night with a 20-minute scrimmage of their own.
Pickett, a 6-foot-6 power forward who transferred to Bradley this summer from Dodge City (Kan.) Community College, was the only double-digit scorer for the Braves. He added five rebounds and a steal in his 16 minutes on the floor. Senior swing man Jake Eastman (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman H.S.) and junior guard Walt Lemon, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./Julian H.S.) both chipped in seven points for the Red squad.
Sophomore forward Shayok Shayok (Ottawa, Ontario/IMG Academy) led the White side with six points, while sophomore guard Omari Grier (Erial, N.J./Episcopal Academy) chipped in five.
Playing point guard for the Red squad, Lemon added five rebounds, two assists and a steal. Redshirt freshman center Nate Wells made his presence felt primarily on the defensive end, grabbing a game-high six rebounds in his 17 minutes.
The Braves will play two preseason exhibition games, Oct. 29 against Upper Iowa at Renaissance Coliseum and Nov. 3 versus Wisconsin-Parkside at Carver Arena. Tickets for both exhibition games, as well as the Nov. 1 Spaghetti Supper, the Nov. 12 regular-season game versus Texas-Pan American at Renaissance Coliseum and the FAN-tastic 4-Pack (Eastern Illinois, Michigan, Wichita State and Illinois State) all went on sale Friday and will remain on sale at the Renaissance Coliseum box office during regular business hours.
