PEORIA, Ill. – True freshman point guard Ka'Darryl
Bell scored all of his career-best 10 points in the final 6:54, helping
Bradley (15-12, 7-8 MVC) pull away from a 2-point lead for an 80-68 Missouri
Valley Conference victory versus Indiana State (16-10, 9-6) Saturday afternoon
at Carver Arena.
Bell's
performance highlighted Bradley's inaugural “Go Pink, Go Bradley” game in honor
of breast cancer survivors. Donning
solid pink uniforms, the Braves dominated the second half, outscoring Indiana
State 45-30 after the break, while outrebounding the Sycamores 21-11 and
forcing 12 Sycamore turnovers in the final 20 minutes.
Walt Lemon,
Jr. and Tyshon Pickett shared team-high scoring honors with 17 points as five
Braves scored in double-figures. Dyricus Simms-Edwards, who was
questionable before the game due to the back spasms he suffered Wednesday night
at Illinois State, scored 13 points off the bench and senior center Will Egolf chipped in 12 points and a
game-high nine rebounds. Lemon became
the 46th player in school history to eclipse 1,000 points when he scored in
transition off a Simms-Edwards steal with 1:03 left in the first half.
Dawon Cummings
led Indiana State with 19 points off the bench to pace Indiana State, while
Jake Odem and R.J. Mahurin both scored 14 for the Sycamores.
Bradley led 58-56 with 7:25 left in the second half when Lemon picked up his
fourth personal foul. Subbing for
Bradley's scoring leader, Bell came in and keyed an 11-3 run over the next
3:53, scoring eight points and grabbing one of his four steals in the deciding
stretch. His signature play of the game
came with 3:05 remaining and the Braves ahead 70-59. After Indiana State had inbounded the ball
from the Bradley baseline, Odum was allowing the ball to roll up court before
the clock started, but Bell dove onto the loose ball and called timeout for his
fourth steal and one of Odum's six turnovers.
