DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake forward Jordan Clarke had 20 points and 15
rebounds and the Bulldogs (12-15, 6-10 MVC) made 38-of-44 free throw attempts
to earn a 92-84 overtime win against Bradley (15-13, 7-9 MVC) Wednesday night
at the Knapp Center.
Will Egolf scored a
career-high 21 points for Bradley, but the Braves were unable to hold a 5-point
lead in the final 26 seconds. The Braves
went up 70-65 with 26.0 seconds left.
Carter converted a 3-point play with 20.6 seconds left and after Tyshon
Pickett missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 19 seconds left, Drake misfired
on two shots before Seth VanDeest was fouled on a final putback attempt with
1.2 seconds remaining. After bouncing in
the first free throw, Bradley called timeout, but the Drake center swished the
second attempt to force the extra session.
Drake never trailed in
overtime and broke the game open with a 5-point possession. Pickett fouled Clarke on a putback attempt,
then shoved the Drake forward as they came down. Clarke split his two free throw attempts and
Ben Simons made two more charity shots for the technical foul against Pickett. Clarke then made two more free throws on the
ensuing possession.
Coupled with Bradley's
need to foul down the stretch, Drake made 18-of-20 free throw attempts in
overtime. The Braves finished the game
17-for-23 from the stripe.
Bradley will try to
regroup when the Braves step out of league play for a Ramada Worldwide
BracketBusters game Saturday afternoon at Illinois-Chicago. Bradley's final two Valley games are Feb. 27
at home versus Creighton – the final regular-season home games for seniors Jake
Eastman, Egolf, Milos Knezevic and Dyricus Simms-Edwards – and March 2 at
Missouri State.
