Braves Host Bradley Intercollegiate at Detweiller Park

The Bradley cross county teams host its first meet of the 2019 season on Friday with the Bradley Intercollegiate set for Detweiller Park on Friday afternoon.

MEET INFO
The women's three-mile race opens the meet at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the men's 8K at 5:45 p.m. A total of 23 teams are set to compete at the meet, including Division I schools Chicago State, Green Bay, Milwaukee, Southeast Missouri State and Western Illinois.

INTERCOLLEGIATE HISTORY
The 33rd running of the Bradley Intercollegiate, the Braves have hosted the meet since 1986.

The Bradley men have claimed the team title in each of the last six years dating back to 2013, while also featuring the individual champion in the last five seasons. Last year, the Braves scored a near-perfect 16 points en route to the title, while senior Will Anderson claimed his first individual title and beat out teammates Michael Ward and Luke Hoffert by a tenth of a second. Jake Hoffert is also a former champion of the meet, claiming the 2017 crown.

The Bradley women saw its five-year winning streak snapped at the meet in 2018 as Northern Iowa edged out the Braves, 28-30, to finish first. However, Gabby Juarez extended Bradley's individual-champion streak to five as she won her first collegiate race to pace the Braves.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bradley men and senior Kerry Gschwendtner claimed titles in the season opener at Western Illinois on Aug. 30. BU finished with a perfect 15 points as the Braves featured the top five finishers and six of the top eight, paced by Gschwendtner's 19:28.7 in the 6K course.

The Bradley women, meanwhile, placed second behind Northern Illinois. Emma Planck led the Braves with a mark of 15:00.6 in the 4K course.

UP NEXT
After a week off, the Braves are back in action on Friday, Oct. 4, competing at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational.
