Kaboom! Awards: Softball Highlights

The 2021 Kaboom! Awards, presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC, continue with a spotlight on the 2021 Bradley Softball season.

Bradley finished the 2021 campaign with 12 Valley wins to tie for the fourth most conference victories in school history. In addition, the Braves swept the season series from Missouri State for the first time since 2009 and claimed the series from Drake for the first time dating back to 2015.

Closing the year with a 13-6 home mark, Bradley had its most home victories going back to 2009 (16-9). In fact, the Braves won eight of their final 10 home contests and went 10-3 at home in MVC action to tie the school record for home league wins originally set in 2015 (10-6).

Limited to a conference-low 13 non-conference contests, Bradley posted nearly one-third of its wins in 2021 against top 100 teams, including a 1-0 blanking of MVC regular-season champion Illinois State behind a two-hit complete game effort from Grace French. A First-Team MVC Scholar-Athlete pick, French led a young pitching staff that is expected to return the bulk of the rotation in 2022 in wins, starts, complete games, shutouts, innings and strikeouts.

Camryn Monteer and senior Vicki Zaluske both took home Second-Team All-MVC honors, with Zaluske also garnering a spot on the MVC's All-Defensive Team. Monteer ranked 11^th in the MVC in batting average and the honorable mention MVC Scholar-Athlete led the team in hits, walks and on base percentage, while tying for the team lead with 26 runs.

The 2021 Kaboom! Awards, presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC, will feature highlights from the Bradley Cross Country/Track & Field seasons along with Soccer on Thursday.
