The 2021 Kaboom! Awards, presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC, once again is being celebrated virtually during the middle of June.  This week's schedule of presentations is focused on each sport's season highlights, including this afternoon's spotlight on Bradley Soccer.

The school year started with a great deal of uncertainty regarding the traditional fall sports seasons.  After much delay, the 2020 soccer season kicked off in February, but nothing about the season was traditional.

The Braves kicked off the season Feb. 3 by hosting in-state rival Eastern Illinois, coached by former Bradley assistant Ronnie Bouemboue, inside the dome at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex.  The game against the Panthers, a 3-2 Bradley win, goes down as the earliest date in a calendar year for a regular-season Bradley Soccer home game and the first-ever regular-season Braves game played indoors.

After a pause for COVID protocols, the odd season continued by starting the double, round-robin Missouri Valley Conference season in February and by hosting the league "home" opener on the artificial surface of Eureka College's Pete FioRito Stadium at McKinzie Field.

A graduate transfer from the University of Washington, goalkeeper Bryce Logan turned away a penalty kick in that home opener, highlighting a shutout performance against Evansville.  Logan would garner MVC Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors for his performance against the Purple Aces, the sign of bigger things to come, as he would go on to earn MVC Goalkeeper-of-the-Year honors from the league's head coaches.

While Logan became the first Bradley Soccer player in program history to cop the relatively young MVC Goalkeeper-of-the-Year award, graduate forward Gerit Wintermeyer was voted to the All-MVC second team, becoming just the sixth player in program history to earn all-conference recognition four times in his career.

Resuming Friday morning, the 2021 Bradley Baseball season will be highlighted as the 2021 Kaboom! Awards, presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC, continues.
