Presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC, the 2021 Kaboom! Awards continue with the presentation of the three finalists for the Charles Orsborn Award.

Named in honor of the former Bradley four-sport student-athlete, men's basketball coach and athletic director, the Charles Orsborn Award is the highest honor Bradley University bestows upon a graduating senior student-athlete and recognizes the ability of the winner to combine athletic and academic success with community service.

Orsborn was a member of the Bradley Basketball's "Famous Five" that played in the first two National Invitation Tournaments in 1938 and 1939 and earned an invitation to the first NCAA Tournament in 1939.  He went to coach the Braves to three NIT championships during his 9-year tenure from 1956-65, earning the distinction of Bradley Basketball Coach of the Century during the celebration of the program's first 100 seasons, and he served as Director of Athletics from 1965-78.

The three finalists for the 68th Charles Orsborn Award are women's basketball guard Gabi Haack (Elk River, MN/Elk River H.S.), men's cross country and track runner Alec Hartman (Westfield, IN/Westfield H.S.) and soccer forward Gerit Wintermeyer (Wiesbaden, Germany/Friedrich-Ebert Schule).

Haack is a four-year starter and two-time captain of the Bradley's women's basketball team. She is part of the winningest senior class in program history, leading her team to a school-record 22 victories in 2019-20 and followed it up with the program's first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship, along with the program's first NCAA National Tournament appearance this past season. She averaged a career-best 16.5 points per game and a team-best 6.8 rebounds in 2020-21 to earn All-MVC first-team honors for the third consecutive season.

Haack's success on the court has been matched in the classroom with her 3.81 grade point average as an elementary education major. She also has been the team's primary organizer for community service events and, as a team leader, she has set the bar high for her teammates by consistently putting in the extra effort in strength and conditioning, recovery, and nutrition.  A three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete and a 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District V selection, last week Haack was named the female recipient of the 2021 MVC Dr. Charlotte West Scholar-Athlete Award, which recognizes the top all-around student-athlete in the league in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence and service and leadership.

Hartmann has achieved immense athletic success in his time at Bradley. He was a member of three Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country team championships, while also winning three titles at the MVC Indoor Track Championships as a part of the distance medley relay team. Overall, he collected nine all-conference honors during his career -- four times reaching the podium as an individual in the 800 meters. He also finished his standout collegiate career with six school records, owning both the indoor and outdoor 800 meter records, while adding four relay marks.

Academically, Hartman is a double major in computer science and biology, sporting a 3.66 cumulative GPA. He is very active with the team's community service efforts and is one of the veteran leaders on the team.

Wintermeyer is an all-around leader who completed the 2020-21 soccer season as Bradley's active leader in every offensive category, while tying for third in program history with 10 career game-winning goals.  He ranks ninth in Bradley history with 57 career points and 24 career goals. Wintermeyer is a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-West Region second-team selection and became just the sixth student-athlete in program history to earn all-conference honors four times as a second-team pick in 2020-21.

Wintermeyer earned his bachelor's degree in international business in December, graduating with a 3.24 GPA. A four-time qualifier for the MVC Honor Roll, he is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration.

The winner of the 2021 Charles Orsborn Award will be announced Friday online at BradleyBraves.com and on the Bradley Athletics social media channels.  The complete list of 2021 Kaboom! Awards, presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC, can be found below:
