Kaboom! Awards: Varsity Club Most Outstanding Male Athlete

PEORIA, IL – Bradley Baseball senior 3B Brendan Dougherty (Clive, IA/Dowling Catholic HS) added to his postseason haul of awards Thursday afternoon when he was named the Bradley Varsity Club Male Most Outstanding Athlete, the latest in the week-long presentation of the Kaboom! Awards, presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC.

Selected from a pool of finalists that included Men's Golf senior Alex Ciaramitaro, Men's Basketball forward Elijah Childs, Soccer goalkeeper Bryce Logan and Men's Cross Country/Track runner Evan Mitchell, Dougherty's selection adds to a list of 2021 awards that includes All-Missouri Valley Conference first team, MVC Baseball Championship All-Tournament, MVC Scholar-Athlete first team and the Bradley Baseball Troy Guidotti Hustle Award.

Playing out the 2021 season with the nation's longest active streak of consecutive starts at third base, which reached 196 consecutive games after starting all 42 games this year, Dougherty also ended the season by reaching base safely in a league-best 38 consecutive games, the longest on-base streak by a Bradley Baseball player since at least 1999. Finishing the year with a .323 batting average, Dougherty led the Braves with 29 RBI and 58 runs produced. Sporting a .423 on-base percentage, he drew 24 walks and was hit by six pitches against just 24 strikeouts on the season.

A three-time honorable mention All-MVC selection, his first-team honor in 2021 by the league's eight head coaches makes him the first player in Bradley Baseball history to receive all-conference honors four times in his career.

Thursday morning, Women's Basketball senior guard Gabi Haack (Elk River, MN/Elk River HS) was announced the 2021 Varsity Club Female Most Outstanding Athlete.

The Kaboom! Awards, presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC, will conclude Friday with the announcement of the Charles Orsborn Award winner.
